All have had an influence on him as a rower and on how he coaches today. Tom notes that "during my National Team career I thought more training was always better. However, as you get older, time available to train gets more limited, so training consistently with efficient technique takes on more importance for strong performances year after year". " A typical week includes 2 weight workouts, 3 rowing workouts (mostly on the erg) and one day on the bike or running. "Being consistent, flexible, and having a plan keeps me in shape and I try to pass that along to others." Tom won the Masters 1x at the Head of the Charles in 2001 and 2002, and finished 2nd in 2003. In 2004 and 2005 he won the Masters 8+ with his former club - Penn AC. Tom lives in Concord, Massachusetts with his wife CB Sands (two-time Lt.Wt World Champion) and their children, Sally, Sabrina and Si. |
